Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Policy Statement

At AID Upstate, we are committed to the core values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) in every aspect of our mission, services, and organizational culture. For over 35 years, we have served the Upstate of South Carolina in dedication to the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS. We firmly believe that DEIB principles are not just words but essential pillars upon which our organization stands.

Diversity: We embrace diversity in all its forms, recognizing that our strength lies in the rich tapestry of backgrounds, experiences, identities, and perspectives that our staff, patients, and community members bring to AID Upstate. We value and celebrate this diversity as it enriches our organization and allows us to better serve the diverse needs of those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Equity: AID Upstate is dedicated to equity in healthcare and all aspects of our work. We acknowledge that systemic disparities exist in healthcare, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities. We are committed to addressing these disparities through our services, outreach, and advocacy, to ensure that every individual is treated fairly and has equal access to healthcare and support.

Inclusion: We seek to provide an inclusive environment where every person feels respected, valued, and heard. We celebrate everyone’s unique differences and believe that the woven diverse tapestry of our community is a way to connect.

Belonging: We strive for each and every person who walks through the AID Upstate doors feels accepted, supported, valued, and welcomed. Each patient, partner, staff person, and leader is celebrated for bringing their true selves to our community and should never feel like they simply should fit in and assimilate into the environment.

We recognize that the fight against HIV/AIDS is intrinsically linked to broader social justice issues. Thus, we will continue to educate ourselves, our staff, and our community about DEIB issues, ensuring that our services are culturally competent and responsive to the unique needs of all individuals we serve. We invite our patients, partners, and supporters to join us in this commitment as we work together to create a world where HIV/AIDS is a thing of the past and where all individuals can thrive without fear of discrimination or bias. We believe together we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve and in our community as a whole.
