Campaign Message

Our Key Message (for brief meetings/conversations with legislators):
“We want $8 million for AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) and core HIV services because HIV is costing S.C. billions and affects hospitals and people in your district. Let me show you some information to help save the state, Medicaid and your district money. [Fact Sheet 1 – S.C. and relevant public health region; Benefits fact sheet]
Investing in ADAP and HIV care will:
Save money - for Medicaid, Hospitals, HIV care system, patients and families.
Help get people back to work - and off of public assistance programs, Medicaid.
Help prevent new infections - treatment lowers amount of virus.
Lengthen and improve lives - more years of earning potential.
Garner more federal funds - for match requirement if S.C. gets more Ryan White funds.
$8 million can help ensure 100% access to HIV medications. 100% access to HIV medications is cost-saving. Early treatment and care will save S.C. millions in the total cost of HIV illness.

We need your vote on bill**** for more funds for ADAP and HIV care. Will you vote ‘yes’ for this bill (or these funds)?”

Tip: Personalize your message when possible – share your story of how the funding shortages impact you, your organization, your patients. Or, share how HIV medications and care has made a difference to you or family/friends, hospital or organization. Use the Success Stories in this campaign packet as an example if you don’t have a personal story.
